In 2010 , the Stoneham Public Library was one of only three libraries in the state to receive a grant to host a Mass Memories Road Show, thanks to the hard work of Reference Librarian, Maureen Saltzman. The grant was made possible by UMASS and the Massachusetts Humanities Council.
After a great deal of planning, and in partnership with the Stoneham Historical Commission, Stoneham Historical Society, and Council on Aging, the Stoneham Road Show took place on Saturday, October 16, 2010. Volunteers from our community and representatives from UMass Boston and Massachusetts Humanities Council digitized photos submitted by Stoneham residents for inclusion in a digital portrait of Massachusetts.
Participants were invited to bring 3 photos to be scanned for inclusion. The photos are available for viewing on OpenArchives. The Stoneham Road Show set a new record for participation and has set the standard for other communities to reach.
