About Youth Services
The Junior Library, located in the main floor’s Carnegie Wing, offers an extensive collection of materials including: books, board games, music CDs, tablets, Playaways, and DVDs. There are two computers for children to use for research and homework, including to look up books in the catalog and access databases. There are 2 IPADs that kids can borrow and play educational games. Our space also includes a play table with toys for kiddos, along with other activities like coloring and puzzles. We have a section of materials for caregivers and offer a number of programs and special events for children of all ages. This collection is geared to support kiddos from birth through 8th grade!
The TeenZone, located on our lower level, has study spaces, a Nintendo Switch game room, games, homework supplies, and activities for teens and tweens. We welcome them to use this as a safe space to study or just meet with friends! The collection is catered to readers in 9th grade through early college. We offer a number of programs for our tween and teen audiences.

Large Print~
Large print books are shown to support readers who may have learning differences, visual needs, and/or issues with comprehension! Gale publishing has been working to publish an increasing number of youth titles in large print. We are actively acquiring these titles, in addition to our access from NOBLE libraries.

Wonderbook~
Wonderbooks are audio enabled print books. They have a thin audio device attached to the front cover; it plays as you read and also has a learning mode with comprehension questions. The print is typically in large print format. Findaway, the parent company, exclusively sells their materials to libraries!
We offer Wonderbooks in:
- picture
- early chapter
- middle grade fiction
- young adult fiction
Additionally, we have access to countless titles from other libraries in our network!

Hi-Lo~
Hi-Lo stands for high interest, low readability. This style of book is wonderful for reluctant readers or for those who may need support with decoding, comprehension, and/or other learning needs. These books are written with age appropriate content, but with simpler vocabulary and sentence structure. We have Hi-Lo titles in our middle grade and young adult fiction sections.

Lightbox Learning~
Lightbox Learning is a database we offer which allows users to translate K-2 nonfiction texts into 17 different languages. The site prompts will default to the language chosen! In addition to the digital materials, we have print English copies of the titles in our collection under AV2.

Programs

Library Cards
Stoneham children are eligible for a library card when they turn 5. A child’s application must be signed by a parent or legal guardian if they are in fifth grade or younger, and the adult must have a valid form of ID such as a license or utility bill so that staff can verify a Stoneham address. For kids in sixth grade and up, we need something to verify identity, such as a school ID. Alternatively, they can come with their guardian and we can use a license to verify.
Click on an icon to view lists of staff recommendations for topics. Some topics will have two lists available; Junior and Middle Grade. Junior will have materials for younger kiddos and may include picture books, early level nonfiction, and easy readers. Middle Grade is geared towards our upper elementary readers.
