Creative Writing Group

Interested in writing amongst a group of peers? During the meetings you will have conversations about writing habits, sharing work and giving critique (optional of course!), and have a timed writing portion to work on your latest work in progress or write on a theme.

Members should bring pencils, pens, notebooks, loose-leaf paper and/or a laptop for brainstorming and taking notes.

No registration required.

Frances Perkins: The Unsung Hero Behind the New Deal, Part 2

Join us on Thursday, May 30th at 7 PM in the Marcy Room, for The Unsung Heroine Behind the New Deal PART 2, an historical portrayal by Lady J.

You can enjoy Part 2 without having seen Part 1 of the series.

The one person in his administration FDR said he could trust was the only woman in his cabinet: Frances Perkins. The first women to serve in the US Cabinet, Frances returns to the Stoneham Public Library to tell “the rest of the story”. Come hear stories of her trials, trip-ups, and triumphs in the FDR administration during the tumultuous years that encompassed the Depression, New Deal, and World War 11. Discover the stories behind topics that include the list of demands she presented to FDR before accepting the Secretary of Labor appointment; professional and personal repercussions of The Depression and World War 11; Frances’ role re New Deal programs; her near impeachment; the anti-immigrant movement, and gender bias and more. You will come to understand the reasons Frances Perkins is referred to as one of the most influential women of the first half of the 20th century.

Arbor Day Walk and Talk: A Friends of Stoneham Library Event!

Free event for kids!

Local botanist Lucas O’Neil will speak about the meaning of Arbor Day. You will walk around the library neighborhood with Lucas to learn about local plants. The first 50 kids at each session will receive a Dogwood tree seedling to take home!

Books in Bloom: A Friends of the Stoneham Library Fundraising Event!

The Books in Bloom fundraiser is back! Brought to you by Friends of Stoneham Library in partnership with Stoneham Garden Club, you can expect:

  • Flower bouquets inspired by novels, made by the Garden Club!
  • Live music performed by Amy Kucharik & Greg Toro!
  • Raffle prizes from local artisans and businesses!
  • Appetizers & Beverages (non-alcoholic)!

Purchase your $35 tickets here using a credit or debit card OR send a check to the library, addressed to the Friends with the names associated with each ticket. Your information will be on a list at the front door at the event. We do not have physical tickets that can mailed in advance.

Tickets are $40 at the door, the night of the event (cash, check or credit card accepted).
